Recreational Services Celebrates 25 years
This month Recreational Services turned 25 years old. To celebrate the incredible journey and to thank our communities for their ongoing support, each of the teams around the country took some time to pay it forward in their own unique way with random acts of kindness.
The Auckland Operational teams decided the best way to pay it forward to our Auckland Communities- was free coffees; as Aucklander's love their coffee!
The Operations Managers split up into areas and along with some of their team members they organised mobile coffee vans around their favourite parks. In the smaller towns the teams went into local coffee shops and put money behind the counter.
Over the 2 days the teams managed to caffeinate many people with over 650 free coffees given out, the public where really grateful and many also stopped for a chat while the team handed out tickets to go in the draw to win $1500.
The Auckland support team had the awesome opportunity to spend lunch time with the kids at Onepoto Primary school on the 3rd March as their way to give back to the community. They purchased 94 lunches for the students and teachers, and thanks to the amazing initiative by ‘Eat My Lunch’ another 94 lunches were provided to other Kiwi kids in need.
The team had a great time hanging out with the kids – they were very chatty and the team sitting cross-legged in their circles in no time; playing games and showing them how fast they can run.
“It was such a rewarding thing to be a part of, so thank you to the Directors and everyone involved in organising the week of birthday celebrations and congratulations on 25 years!” – Karena Parr, HSE and Performance Management Administrator
Club of Origin
On Sunday August 14th, the inaugural Recreational Services Club of Origin Programme got underway in perfect weather and ground conditions with 300 plus players and around 1000 spectators spread through the day in what proved to be a very successful initiative for the clubs involved. The initiative was introduced by the North Harbour Rugby Community as a way in which clubs can take action to maintain contact with their junior players through their secondary school rugby years.
'A special thanks to Recreational Services for sponsoring the programme and providing the BBQ trailer for the very popular sausage sizzle for the team'.
Kaipatiki Family Day
On Sunday 29th of November the Kaipatiki Community trust held a family day for Recreational Services. With the sun sun out, toys scattered all across Little Shoal Bay and families from not only RS joining in on the fun, it turned out to be a great day for everyone. The local community board representatives came along to thank RS for their many years of service to the community.
Jill Nerheny who organised the day has a long association with the company and we have forged a great relationship with her and her community trust.
Thank you to everyone who came along for the day.
Camp Marynard
For the past 6 months we have mown & weedeaten Camp Maynard at no cost. This is a not for profit organisation that provides Team Building and Outdoor Experiences for Children, and also provides a venue for community based events.
The client was extremely thankful:
‘Wow, I was certainly not expecting that. That is very generous….Thanks again, I will give the rest of the committee the great news.’
Adopt a Spot - Graffiti
Recreational Services is highly supportive of any initiatives that reduce community vandalism and are active supporters and promoters of Auckland Councils Adopt-a-spot programme which helps neighbourhoods and communities to combat graffiti vandalism. The programme enables volunteers to take ownership of an area in their neighbourhood to look after and keep it graffiti free, the area you can adopt can be as big or small as you wish. Materials such as paint, brushes and other equipment maybe supplied so that volunteers can help remove graffiti from their own or others properties. Whether you are one person, a member of a group, or a business association, you can Adopt-a-spot, to help keep your neighbourhood graffiti free.
You may just want to report graffiti if you see it on someone else’s property, not just your own, whether it is private or commercial property and our graffiti team can take your enquiry from there.
