Closed for Good Day
The Manawatu Recreational Services team were proud to be involved with the Feilding BNZ staff as part of their “Closed of Good Day” on the 23rd August. This small crew managed to prepare and paint over 450 metres of a low bollard and rail fence running along the perimeter of Victoria Park in Feilding. Recreational Services were proud to assist this community initiative by providing staff, plant and equipment.
The great work under by the BNZ staff has largely improved this popular parks appearance.
Recreational Services Celebrates 25 years - Random acts of Kindness
This month Recreational Services turned 25 years old. To celebrate the incredible journey and to thank our communities for their ongoing support, each of the teams around the country took some time to pay it forward in their own unique way.
The Manawatu Team decided to pay for the entry fees to the Makino Aquatic Centre for all users on Wednesday 1st March as a random act of kindness to celebrate Recreational Services 25th Birthday. It was to thank the local community for their support and compliments received during our first year of operation in the Manawatu. Kiriana Horua was the Manawatu Recreational Services representative informing the Makino Aquatic Centre customers of our random act of kindness and handing out birthday cards which puts the recipient in the draw to win $1,500.00.
Woodfall Lodge and Retirement Home received a random act of kindness from the Recreational Services Manawatu division also. RS facilities staff Caroline Hanger, Kiriana Horua and Ops Manager Duncan de Burgh put on morning tea for the residents. Caroline and Kiriana were outstanding hostess and were warmly welcomed by the residents. We took the chance to have our photo taken with a couple of characters, Albert and Robbie who wave to the girls as they drive past each morning in their “white trucks”.
Thank you to all involved - we appreciate your ongoing support.
The Annual Feilding Christmas Parade
December 11th saw the annual Feilding Christmas parade take place with over 60 floats involved and thousands upon thousands of spectators. Being Recreational Services first year in the Manawatu our staff were very keen to be involved, with the artistic flair of Horticulturist, Barbara Hehir on board, we entered a float. Our theme was an “Enchanted garden” complete with flying butterflies, bubble blowing and live fairies, angles and elves. We got a lot of comments like “wow look at those butterflies” and” how cute are those fairies” along with amazed gasps as the older fairies performed some fantastic gymnastic moves in front of the float. Of course Operational Manager, Duncan had to show off the BBQ trailer in the parade after the local Lions Club had cooked hundreds of sausages to feed all of the parade participants and volunteers. Next year we vow to be bigger and better, watch this space!
Thank you to all involved!
