Ruakaka Sand Dune Clean up
On the 16th August in conjunction with 15 plus volunteers from NRC, DOC and Bream Bay Coastcare, RS supplied a labour force to help with the eradication of Acacia longifolia from the sand dunes along the magnificent Ruakaka Beach. The group of lads, Erin, Nick, Nick, Bruce, Tank and Ric eagerly took to the seedling trees along the dunes armed with chainsaws, handsaws and vigilant to prevent the nasty trees from reshooting. At lunch time everyone was treated to a BBQ supplied courtesy of RS, which filled their bellies to take the afternoon work on again with a surplus of energy.
Great Effort team.

Dear Recreational Services,
I write this thank you letter with a huge appreciation for your sponsorship and support towards the Whangarei Girls High School 1st X1 Football team who recently travelled to Nelson to compete in the Lotto Premier Girls New Zealand Secondary Schools Tournament.
You chose to support the girls by sponsoring the cost of our vehicles while in Nelson - a whopping $1415.85. This equates to $88.49 per girl, funds that the girls did not have to come up with. There wasn’t a single girl on the team that did not gratefully appreciate this fact.
We headed off to the tournament after not qualifying for Nationals for the past 5 years. The girls with coach Nicole Stratford came up with the team goal of aiming to make the top 20 out of the 32 teams attending the tournament.
We had a tough lineup in pool play - first game up was against Rangitoto College who came 3rd in last years tournament. The girls gave it everything, and ended up with a very close result of 2-1 loss. This result inspired the girls to keep up their efforts, with every game putting themselves out there they did extremely well. At end of pool play the girls made the top 16 teams - Goal achieved !!
Qualifying 2nd in our pool was a disappointment because we then had to play against Mount Albert Grammar School in quarter finals. This team has at least 5 NZ under 20 players in the side, so was a fierce game. The girls lost 6-nil, but do have a claim to fame that in the second half no further goals were scored by MAGS, and that we had several shots on goal - unfortunately not managing to score ourselves.
After more intense games, and too many injuries to our girls, we left tournament feeling very proud to be ranked the 12th Girls Secondary School Football team in New Zealand.
Once again, the Whangarei Girls High Football team sincerely thank Recreational Services for their sponsorship and support to help fund the tournament costs. The reduced stress of not having money worries allowed the girls to concentrate on playing football, and for this we thank you.
We look forward to any further assistance and support you may be prepared to offer.
Kind regards
Di Powell

Dear Anita and Recreational Services
Thank you so much for the Sponsorship of our clubs hats.
We wore them at our local tournament this past weekend and had a lot of comments on how awesome they were.
Attached are some photos of our club members. We have also used our Facebook page to show off our new hats as with some of the pictures below giving special mention to RS for the sponsorship.
It will certainly be a sun smart summer with these beauties for the Whangarei Polocrosse Family in our travels around the country.
We look forward to sharing some moments from the coming season with you over the summer including our young gun player Tawa Holyoake who is once again gunning to make the New Zealand squad for the Junior team.
Once again a huge thanks
